Description:

An in-person conversation with two LA area city representatives who will share critical insights into the status of their respective city agencies, including processes, workflow, and what is coming in terms of new changes and better implementation in permitting. We will discuss their experience with other local cities and how architects and city officials can collaborate to help each other to thrive in the often-frustrating experience that we call architecture.

Panelists:

Christopher Koontz – Director of Development Services Department, City of Long Beach

Marc Wiener – Community Development Director, City of Redondo Beach

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will gain important information on how they, as architects, can connect with city officials, nurture those relationships, and receive relevant information on how to better navigate the process from kick off through certificate of occupancy.
  • Attendees will learn the common process on how architects can help the city officials better their plan-check process and make it more of a two-way street.
  • Attendees will learn how architects can assist city officials in determining potential alternatives in getting projects ready to issue and assessing their feasibility.
  • Attendees will be presented with valuable advice on where the cities are heading, including artificial intelligence, social media, and marketing.
