SUMMARY:Design Awards Submission Support: Common Application - 2025 Update
DESCRIPTION:1.0 AIA LU \n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets on Eventbrite\n\nREGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Common Application is based on the AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence which seeks to inform progress toward a zero-carbon\, equitable\, resilient\, and healthy built environment. These are to be thoughtfully considered by designer and client at the initiation of every project and incorporated into the work as appropriate to the project scope. The Framework is intended to be accessible and relevant for every architect\, every client\, and every project\, regardless of size\, typology\, or aspiration. \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an enlightening webinar where we delve into the Common Application\, a vital tool in the Design Awards process adopted by AIA Chapters nationwide. Our session will demystify the Common App and focus on common pitfalls and mistakes encountered by submitters. Additionally\, the presenters will cover the new 2025 updates. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re a seasoned participant or new to the process\, our webinar aims to equip you with the knowledge and insights necessary to navigate the Common App effectively. From understanding its structure to optimizing your submissions\, our panel of experts is here to assist. Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your understanding and elevate your submissions for Design Awards. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\n\nWalk through AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence and its importance within all project types.\n\n\n\nExplore the Common Application and answer questions on how to correctly pull out and calculate energy data.\n\n\n\nCompare different categories of buildings\, how they are weighed in the technical review process and how submitters can address Framework areas their projects do not excel in.\n\n\n\nAnalyze strategies that correctly and efficiently pull data on a project and complete the Common Application without it heavily affecting firm time.\n\n\n\n\nPresenters: \n\n\n\n\nKatie Ackerly\, AIA\, LEED AP\, CPHC\, is Principal and Sustainable Design Director at David Baker Architects\, a firm known for elevating the design of multi-family housing. Katie holds a Master of Architecture and a Masters degree in Building Science from UC Berkeley\, and has taught and conducted research related to energy and environmental design. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDave Intner\, AIA\, with Southern California Edison’s Building Electrification and Codes & Standards team\, is a Licensed Architect\, AIA\, LEED AP and Certified Energy Manager.  A graduate of Cal Poly SLO\, Dave provides education and outreach supporting Building Decarbonization and Energy Code Compliance Improvement. Dave has 28 years of professional experience split between architectural practice and utility program delivery. \n\n\n\n\nModerator: \n\n\n\n\nKeith Hempel\, FAIA\, President and Chief Design Officer at LPA\, is an active national leader on energy performance and decarbonization\, working to develop best practices across the industry for developing higher performing buildings.
