SUMMARY:Weekday Online Webinar: Forging the Future - Exploring Steel Windows & Doors in Residential Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets on Eventbrite\n\nREGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1.0 AIA LU/HSW \n\n\n\nDescription: \n\n\n\nThis course provides an overview of Steel Windows & Doors in residential architecture.    It will define the history of how steel windows in buildings originated in medieval times from Blacksmiths for churches and the very wealthy who could afford them.   It will delve into the alloy material make-up of steel and the welding process of assembly\, the glazing process for steel windows and the various methods of coating or finishing the steel to protect from elements and corrosion.   This class will assist the residential specifier to identify different performance characteristics of different steel windows defining how hot rolled and cold rolled steel differ as well as thermally broken steel product from non-thermally broken product.   Various window and door operation (venting capabilities) and associative hardware will be reviewed as well as U.S. window “life safety” and code requirements.   The class will conclude reviewing various installation details of steel windows and doors in common wall conditions for typical residential architecture. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\n\nGain a basic understanding of how Steel window and doors originated in medieval architecture.\n\n\n\nReview various types of alloys used historically and today in producing steel fenestration.\n\n\n\nLearn the difference and process in hot rolled vs. cold rolled steel.\n\n\n\nUnderstand the various types (techniques) of welding in existence today and which process is used extensively in modern day manufacturing of steel products.\n\n\n\nUnderstand the difference between a steel profile Manufacturer and a Fabricator.\n\n\n\nReview Architectural styles (genre) where steel windows and doors are most commonly used.\n\n\n\nDefine basic performance needs in a steel window and door and how to write those features into a window & door specification.\n\n\n\nReview wall conditions and installation techniques of steel windows and doors to maximize performance\, operation\, and comfort.\n\n\n\n\nAttendees have a chance at winning a $100 gift card to a restaurant of their choice! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMitra Ahmadian is an experienced Architectural Consultant at BMD specializing in the fenestration side of the company’s manufacturing.
