Architecture School Scholarship Program

For Community College Transfer Students and Graduate Students

Applications due by September 8

The members of the American Institute of Architects, Long Beach/South Bay (AIA LBSB), are pleased to provide this scholarship program to help support the education of future architects!

Two one-time $2,000 scholarships are available:

  1. One for a current community college student transferring to pursue a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
  2. One for an individual pursuing a master’s degree in architecture.

Scholarship recipient is required to be enrolled in a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited architecture school in the fall of 2025. (Please check with NAAB to confirm that your architecture school is eligible.)

All applicants should submit the application and requirements no later than the specified deadline. All scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee of the AIA LBSB.

AIA LBSB utilizes an online portal with Submittable for our scholarship program. There is no fee associated with our application portal. As an applicant, you will be required to create an account. Once you create an account you may start the application. You may save it in draft form until you are ready to submit.

About the Community College Transfer Scholarship

This scholarship supports students transferring from community college to a university architecture program—an important but often under-supported pathway into the profession. Recognizing the financial and academic challenges many transfer students face, the award aims to increase access to architectural education, support diverse entry points into the field, and celebrate the determination and potential of students pursuing their dreams through a nontraditional route.

Requirements

  1. Applicant must have attended a community college this past term of spring 2025.
  2. Applicant must provide proof of an offer and acceptance to a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited architecture school for the fall 2025 term. (Please check with NAAB to confirm that your school is eligible.)
  3. Applicant must provide a transcript or other form of proof of enrollment in a community college for the spring 2025 term.
  4. Applicant’s home residence must be located within the County of Los Angeles.
  5. One PDF upload not to exceed 8 MB in size – see details below.

About the Jeromy Rogan Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Students

Established in memory of Jeromy Rogan—an accomplished architect, construction executive, and mentor—this scholarship supports graduate students pursuing architecture or related fields. The award honors Jeromy’s commitment to professional excellence, collaboration, and lifelong learning, and aims to encourage the next generation of designers and builders who share his passion for craft, leadership, and community impact.

Jeromy Rogan passed away in 2024. His legacy continues through this scholarship and the many lives he impacted. Learn more about Jeromy.

Requirements

        Resume

A one-page typed outline that lists your accomplishments and experiences. Suggested items to include are contact information, awards received, courses completed, work experience, travel, extracurricular activities, interests and volunteer experience.

        A “Why” Paragraph

In 100 words or less, explain why you want to become an architect.

        Letter of Recommendation

One letter of recommendation from an instructor or non-academic source, excluding family members.

        Examples of Work (Portfolio)

Include four (4) examples of personal artwork, drawings, graphics, photographs and/or architectural design projects. Applicants are encouraged to include diverse examples of their work; creativity in content and presentation is strongly encouraged. These examples should be in landscape format (11″ x 8.5″) so that the committee members may view them in full on a computer or TV monitor.
