Summer Solstice Architectural Walking Tour

June 11, 2022 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

This year’s tour will be in honor of the late Jonathan Glasgow, AIA. In addition to initiating and leading this annual tour for the AIA Long Beach chapter, Jon was an influential architect and mentor for so many in the Long Beach community.

The tour will take place throughout parts of Downtown, the East Village and Alamitos Beach. In the recent years, downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods have seen an exciting emergence of vibrant new buildings, restaurants, and retail. Our urban tour will include an exploration of projects that range from new residential buildings to historic renovations to iconic artwork. Briefly stopping at over fifteen different sites scattered throughout the downtown area, including the new Ocean Tower, and adaptive re-use building.

We will meet at the termination of the Promenade in the iconic Harvey Milk Park. This location is conveniently located adjacent to a public parking garage, but we encourage arriving by transit or bike. We will conclude our tour back at the Promenade at a local restaurant with appetizers hosted by AIA Long Beach South Bay.
