A summary update on the 2022 California Building Code and Fire Code that is effective January 1, 2023. This update will focus on major fire protection and life safety code changes.

Learning Objectives:

• A summary of the major code changes relating to fire protection and life safety will allow the participant to recognize designs that require further review.
• The participant will understand the options available to resolve design challenges through the code’s exceptions and or interpretive text. Of key importance, the participant will understand that in many instances, the construction documents simply need to clearly identify the fire protection and life safety approach on the life safety plans.
• The participant will learn about different code approaches for buildings of mixed-uses such as residential, business, mercantile and assembly occupancies. Numerous CBC hot topics ranging from egress, tenant construction, atriums, parking beneath a building, and building adjacencies will be discussed.
• An overall re-familiarization with the basic fire protection and life safety approach to a project from the beginning of project inception will assist the participant in continuing their efforts to become a more well-rounded architect.
